Embracing Change
Not a day goes by that I don’t find myself chasing tiny balls of solder from various corners of our home, reminders of recent re-piping and renovation work.
The need for re-piping had presented the ideal occasion to initiate much neglected and long deferred projects.
For years, I resolved to repaint our home, make repairs, replace this, or renovate that, declarations that came and went with each passing year. There were a myriad of reasons for supporting the status quo – lack of time, bad timing, money, inconvenience or too laborious. I confess that laziness and complacency aside, there was also some fear behind my procrastination. What if, after all the time, money and energy spent, the results were disappointing or worse, bad ugly?
Opportunity had now come knocking, or rather thumping loudly on the door. It was now or never. To quote entrepreneur Richard Branson, “Screw it, let’s do it.” As the workers ripped open the walls of our home, the thought, out with the old, in with the new carried me through the chaos. In the end, everything came together.
Embracing change in our life is never easy, be it small or large, by choice or necessity. Whether we are renovating our home, switching careers, leaving a relationship or starting one, or simply changing our hairstyle, letting go of the familiar and courting the unknown requires a leap of faith.
No matter how prepared we may be, we never feel ready, so take a deep breath, and just go for it. When we do take the leap, we discover, more often than not, that something exciting, beautiful, and wonderful awaits us on the other side.
Are you ready to take the leap?
beautifully written Cassandra and very timely, I’ve had to embrace a lot of change lately despite my resistance, by surrendering I’m coping.
